If you’ve always wanted to attend JSCamp Barcelona, but have difficulty attending the conference this is your chance!

A conference like JSCamp represents an opportunity for people from all over the tech community to come together and explore the challenges faced by developers worldwide. The JSCamp team truly believes the value of the conversation increases when a wide range of points of views are represented. But, the average cost of a conference ticket can create a barrier to entry for some and it is critical to breakdown those barriers for groups that have been excluded from tech and the open source community. We want to make sure that everyone is able to participate.

If we want a better future for the web, we need everybody.

JSCamp aims to become known as an inclusive, diverse event, with a welcoming atmosphere for all, a broad range of topics and people from various backgrounds participating in it. We want our conference and community to include, promote, support and encourage diversity, as we believe that a more diverse audience makes for a better event and community experience.

Building a better web comes a variety of people, regardless of their race, ethnicity, gender, abilities, age, religion, sexual orientation, and economic or social classes.

That is why JSCamp Barcelona has organized a Diversity Scholarship Program to make tickets available on an individual basis to help you, people from underrepresented groups in technology, who otherwise could not take part in it, attend our international JavaScript and Web conference.

Thanks to the incredible support of the diversity sponsors, like npm Inc. and Mozilla, 12% of our attendees could join us in our 2018 edition via our Diversity Program. This year, we´re running our Diversity Program, for the second time in a row and we hope to bring even more attendees to our conference in this way.

If you’ve always wanted to attend JSCamp Barcelona, but have difficulty attending the conference due to lack of money or resources, this is your chance! The Scholarship Program was made for you. We hope our program enables you to join us and contribute to our conversation.

Requirements

In order to be eligible to apply for our Diversity Scholarship Program, you must:

  • belong to an underrepresented group in technology. This may include (but is not limited to) people of color, LGBTQIA, people with disabilities, refugees, women, students and people facing economic or social hardships.
  • agree to follow our Code of Conduct
  • be at least 18+ years old
  • attend the full duration of JSCamp Barcelona (July 18th & 19th, 2019)

What does the Diversity Scholarship include?

We focus our efforts on the local community, so we highly encourage applicants from Barcelona and surroundings to apply for our Diversity Scholarships. Exceptions are possible and every case will be treated independently.

Each scholarship award is valid for one general conference ticket (free or reduced price), including:

  • General admission conference pass to JSCamp Barcelona 2019 edition
  • Two session days of the event (July 18th & 19th, 2019)

We want all our attendees to feel part of our community: people awarded with a fully or partly funded, diversity ticket will receive a general conference ticket with the same benefits as any other attendee.

The following expenses are not included in the Diversity Scholarship:

  • Travel to the event
  • Accommodation during the event
  • Since we do not offer lunch at the conference itself, you have to take care of yourself like the other attendees
  • Local city transport during the event

How Are Winners Determined?

Each Diversity application will be thoroughly vetted to ensure it satisfies all program requirements before being added to a pool:

  • One submission per applicant.
  • International applicants are welcome: take into account that you will be responsible to secure your own visa, flight and hotel to attend the conference
  • The organizers’ decision is final and cannot be appealed.

How to Apply?

Our Diversity Tickets are available through an application procedure. To apply, you need to fill out our Diversity Attendee Application Form

Update [May 9th]: Submissions for the Diversity Scholarship program are now closed. We would like to thank everyone who applied! — We will send all the responses in the upcoming days. Good luck to all of the applicants!

  • Free and discounted diversity tickets are limited in number.

Privacy

At JSCamp we respect your privacy. We guarantee that the applicant’s privacy, details, and answers remain protected at all times, as the JSCamp conference is determined to provide a safe environment for all attendees. Your personal data are collected and used in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Applicant details and submission information will be shared exclusively with JSCamp organizers. Diversity partners will not have access to applicant information.

Diversity Partners

We are currently looking for various organizations to provide access to relevant groups. If your group or organization would like to be included in this program, please contact us.

Help us to make an impact, as we’d love to be able to offer more scholarships this year. Granting diversity scholarships tickets are made possible thanks to companies, committed to diversity and inclusion, that contribute as Diversity partners.

Diversity Sponsorship is not meant as money for a party, nor for a fancy catering, or a nice booth. Instead, it is a chance for someone to attend the conference, who otherwise couldn´t.

This ticket fund will be the sole support of JSCamp´s 2019 Diversity Scholarship Program. Your consideration and contribution to helping our community will be recognized. If you or your company would be interested in sponsoring a scholarship or have any question about our Diversity Scholarship Program, feel free to contact us hello@jscamp.tech or via Twitter at @JSCamp.

Code of Conduct

All attendees, speakers, sponsors, partners and staff at JSCamp are required to agree to the Code of Conduct. Organizers will enforce this code throughout the event.
